Munich

I always try to hold off on first impressions since whenever i arrive somewhere i'm usually tired and dislocated from the travelling.

At first the sights were the usual centuries old stunning buildings. This cathedral has a clock where the figures come out for a wander every hour.

I've discovered my phone isn't charging from my laptop like it's supposed to and i needed to buy some other things so i wandered along the main shopping streets. I'm not sure if it was a holiday here today but the streets were mobbed, like a Saturday afternoon at home. I don't do crowds very well at the best of time, so with the dislocation and the heat it made it worse and i wasn't liking the place.

My brother lived in Munich a few years ago so i asked him for some tips on sights to see and it's when i headed off to look at the first after a shower and food that i started to enjoy the place.

While wandering around near the Olympic park i found one of the kinds of museum that i like.

Both of these buildings belong to BMW. The main headquarters is the building above, while the sci-fi building to the left is a kind of showroom/exhibition/museum i think.

There were bikes form the current range sitting outside which you could try out for size. While sitting on them i noticed a couple of guys wander inside, and it turned out the building is open even after 9 o'clock in the evening. You can't do any of the tours but you can wander through it and have a look at the cars and bikes. This one looks quite quick.

But then it's all relative since they are not having a good season at the moment. I'll go back up today and have a look through the museums. There's one dedicated to motorbikes apparently so hopefully that'll be interesting and i'll try to resist the temptation to buy a new bike while i'm there.

The other reason for going back up is to get a better look around the Olympic park, since some of the buildings there are fairly stunning. I was losing the light last night but hopefully you can get an impression of what i mean from this shot.
